This short-term focus proves woefully inadequate for tackling complex, long-term challenges such as climate change, plastic pollution, and the escalating loss of biodiversity. These pressing global issues necessitate sustained leadership and a commitment to long-term planning that transcends the constraints of electoral cycles.

A compelling case for the urgency of long-term planning can be found in concrete examples from around the world. Singapore’s strategic water management policies, meticulously crafted and implemented over decades, have ensured the island nation’s water sustainability despite facing significant resource constraints (Tan, 2022).
